The essential guide to starting with WriteText.ai

This guide will walk you through how to set up, create your first product text, and make the most of your credits and features.

Choose how you want to begin 

There are two ways to start your setup for WriteText.ai:

Sign up through the website

1. Create your WriteText.ai account by signing up here.  
2. On the signup form, fill out your details and select your ecommerce platform from the dropdown (WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento or other - which means you will have to use the API) to complete registration.
3. Once you’ve created your account, you’ll be taken directly to the download page for the platform you selected or to the API keys page.
4. If you're using multiple platforms, you can go to the “Downloads” section after signing in to access and download the other plugin versions as needed:
5. Once downloaded, you can access detailed setup instructions on the respective installation pages: WooCommerce, Magento, and Shopify.

   • If you need help with integrations to other systems such as ERP, PIM, or similar, our in-house development team can provide assistance as part of the Enterprise plan.

Install the plugin first 

If you’ve installed WriteText.ai from the WordPress plugin directory, Shopify app store, or from the download page on WriteText.ai website without first creating an account, you can complete the setup within the backend of these systems by following the steps outlined in the these guides:

What to do during your free trial 

Once you sign up, you'll start on the Free Trial giving you 14 days of full access to the Pro features with no credit card required. You’ll have 35 credits to explore everything WriteText.ai has to offer.

Use the trial to explore the full workflow from SEO optimization to content generation and publishing. Here are the features we suggest you explore:  

• Set up a custom template. Build reusable templates with custom layouts for meta titles, product pages and category content, covering everything from product introductions to features, advantages, benefits, FAQs, custom prompts and much more. Click here to open the template configuration page.
  • Custom prompts and image blocks. Within templates, you can add blocks where you input your own custom prompts, letting you generate tailored text for specific needs, and image blocks to enhance product and category pages with visual descriptions.
  • Style your layout with CSS classes. Every content block in your template comes with its own CSS class, allowing you to fully control where and how your content is displayed on your storefront—without modifying the generated text. Use your own stylesheet to position, hide, or animate content sections as needed, from headlines to FAQs. Learn more about template styling.
• If your webshop sells products in varying categories, setting up a template for each category is likely to give you better results. Imagine a shop selling clothing and jewelry. Having two distinct templates allows you to include close-up photos for products in the jewelry category but leave out close-ups in the clothing category. Note: If you set up a new template, remember to assign it to the webshop so that you can select them for text generation. This is done in the Linked webshops menu.
• Product research for sparse listings. If your products have minimal data, you can enrich the content using AI-driven research by enabling the product research feature. Just check the box “Product Research” before text generation to let WriteText.ai research and include relevant information in the text automatically.
• Run AI-powered keyword analysis. Use Single or Bulk to discover high-impact keywords based on your product data, seed keywords (optionally entered), product image, and product research results. Behind the scenes, WriteText.ai identifies competing pages in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP), finds out what keywords they are ranking for that your page is not, generates other related keywords, and finally groups all keywords from the full analysis into topic clusters and sorts them by volume and ranking difficulty. This helps you start with easy wins, i.e. easy-to-rank-for keywords, while building toward more competitive keywords. Depending on your configuration, WriteText.ai can also be set up to automatically generate content with updated keywords and directly publish them, essentially automating the work of many SEO agencies. *
• Generate product descriptions. It's recommended to start with optimizing product descriptions first, as category descriptions rely on existing product texts as their foundation. Use single or bulk generation to produce a full set of SEO-optimized content, including meta title, meta description, product text, short description, Open Graph text, and image alt text.
• Generate category descriptions. Once you have tested product descriptions, try to generate category descriptions. When representative products are selected during generation, WriteText.ai uses product content to generate category descriptions aligned with the products in the category.
• Follow the keyword optimization pipeline. Explore how the pipeline works by creating your own and adjusting how content updates are triggered. Triggering updates based on SERP rankings is typically more effective. Keywords are organized into clusters from low to high difficulty, and WriteText.ai can be set up to automatically rewrite content using the next keyword in the cluster when the product page ranks in the SERP for the current keyword. This way, content evolves over time by automatically being rewritten with a more challenging keyword (with higher search volume). 

* We do advise that you publish to a staging server and review the updated text before publishing to your live environment.

How to generate content using WriteText.ai

Now that you’ve explored what’s possible during your trial, here’s a simple walkthrough to help you start generating content using WriteText.ai.

Step 1 - Access WriteText.ai

In your ecommerce store, open the WriteText.ai product list.

Single text generation

• Select the product you want to edit by choosing ‘Edit’ when your cursor hovers over the product you want to generate text for.
• Set search intent (transactional, commercial, navigational, or informational). This will filter out keyword suggestions based on the intent you selected.
• Click “Start AI-powered keyword analysis”. You cannot continue until it has been completed. You have the option to enter your own ‘seed keywords’ if you want to give WriteText.ai more to go on than the product name, product research, and image analysis.
  Note: To save time, you can do a ‘Bulk keyword analysis’ from the list view, completing analysis for 10, 20 or more products in one go while you attend to other things. You can safely close your browser while WriteText.ai is working.
• Select relevant product data that you want to be considered in generating text (e.g., features, image, product research) or add other product details.
• Optionally, input an additional prompt to guide the AI.
• Configure the tone, style, and target audience to match your brand voice.
• Choose which text types you want to include in the generation by checking or unchecking the corresponding checkboxes.
• For meta title, product description, and product short description, choose a template if you want your content to follow a specific structure you’ve set up. If you leave this section as “No template”, WriteText.ai will generate the output in unformatted paragraph form. Note: If no template is listed in the dropdown, it means that there isn’t any template assigned to your webshop. Please open Linked webshops and complete the task.
• Set the length for product descriptions and short descriptions (this setting only applies for when you’re not using a template).

When ready, click "Generate selected." WriteText.ai will then generate the text for the selected text types. Once complete, review the text before clicking the "Transfer selected to [Your Platform]" button.

Click the “Link preview” button in the upper right corner of the screen to view the live product text.

Bulk text generation

• Select multiple products for batch processing. Typically, you will select products belonging to the same category as they are likely to use the same settings and template.
• In the dropdown, you will see the different bulk actions available. You can opt to select “Bulk generation” for straightforward text generation, but we also recommend you try “Full automation” for a streamlined process consisting of keyword analysis, text generation, and transfer to your platform in one flow.
• Pop-up window: For “Full automation”, a screen will pop up showing the three actions involved (Optimize, Generate, and Transfer), as well as a few tabs discussed below. You can deselect transfer if you want to review the text before publishing it. If transfer is selected, it will be done at the displayed time which can be changed in the global settings.
• Text type and templates: Choose which text types you want to include in the generation by checking and unchecking the corresponding checkbox across from the text type (meta title, meta description, product description, product short description, Open Graph text, and/or image alt text).
  • Select a template if you want your content to follow a template you have set up. You can use templates for meta titles, product descriptions and product short descriptions.
• Keyword analysis: Configure your settings for keyword analysis and automatic content updates.
• Tone, Style, Audiences: Choose the tones, style, and target audiences for the text generation.
• Product data: Select which product data you want considered for text generation. All data fields across the selected products are shown, but only the actual data available for each individual product will be used when generating its content.
  • Optionally input "Special instructions” to guide the AI generation.
• Text length: Adjust the number of words used in product description and product short description. Note that this setting is ignored when a template is used.

Once the settings are configured, click "Run full automation". WriteText.ai will then perform keyword analysis, generate the selected text types, and transfer the text to your webshop (if checked) in one process. Depending on the number of products, this may take a long time, but you can safely close your browser window once the process starts and check the results later when it’s complete. You will receive an email notification.

Note: We recommend using a staging server when running full automation to review the output before publishing it live. If you don’t have a staging server, disable the "Transfer to [Your Platform]" option. This allows you to review the generated content, make any necessary edits, and then use bulk transfer to publish it.

Other bulk actions

Aside from full automation, you can divide tasks into separate bulk actions, specifically:

• Bulk keyword analysis
• Bulk generate
• Bulk transfer

It’s up to you and your workflow to decide how to use WriteText.ai. For companies with review processes, dividing the work into multiple steps may be most effective, while for solo users, completing everything in one go is often preferred. Either way, WriteText.ai adapts to your working style.
