How do I use custom prompts and special instructions in WriteText.ai templates?
What is a template in WriteText.ai?
A template is a predefined content structure that defines which sections appear on a product or category page (for example: Features, Benefits, FAQ, Technical Specifications).
Special instructions
Special instructions are add-on rules placed inside a default template section, such as Features, Benefits, Advantages, or FAQ.
They work together with the section’s built-in logic and are ideal for fine-tuning content without changing the overall structure.
When should you use special instructions?
Use special instructions when you want to:
-
Emphasize or style specific elements (for example, bold attribute labels).
-
Control keyword usage or repetition.
-
Add precise content rules within the section’s existing format.
What should you not use special instructions for?
Do not use special instructions to override settings already defined in the section, such as:
-
Changing heading levels (for example, H2 to H3).
-
Switching text types (for example, bullets to paragraphs).
If there’s a conflict, the base section settings always win.
Custom prompt
A custom prompt is a standalone instruction used to create entirely new sections that don’t exist in the default template, such as:
-
“What it’s made of”
-
“Care guide”
-
“How to benefit from”
-
“Sustainability”
Custom prompts give you full control over structure, wording, and logic.
How is layout handled in a custom prompt?
You can either:
-
Select a layout in the UI (paragraphs, bullets, numbered lists), or
-
Choose “Prompt defined” and include layout instructions directly inside the prompt.
To avoid conflicts, only use one approach.
Custom prompts limitation
Each template can include:
-
Up to 10 custom prompt sections.
-
A maximum of 1,000 characters per custom prompt field.
Difference between special instructions and custom prompts
| Special instructions | Custom prompts |
| Extend an existing section. | Create brand-new sections. |
|
Follow the section's built-in logic. |
Allow strict formatting and bespoke logic. |
| Best for small refinements and content rules. | Best for unique content structures not covered by default sections. |
How does priority and behavior work?
Special instructions are added on top of a section’s base instructions, but the base instructions always control the output type and overall structure, and if there’s a conflict, the base format takes priority, so special instructions should focus on what to say, not how the layout is structured.
Localization with prompts
You can write prompts in any language e.g., a prompt written in English will still generate German text if the site language is set to German.
WriteText.ai automatically generates output based on your webshop’s language and country settings, including:
-
Grammar and vocabulary.
-
Capitalization and punctuation rules.
- Local formats for numbers, units, dates, and measurements.

Negative keywords with prompts
Negative keywords prevent certain words from being used by default, but they can be overridden when contextually required.
For example, if “sale” is set as a negative keyword, you can still force its usage with a special instruction or custom prompt such as:
"Wherever applicable, mention that the product is on sale (50% off) until December."
This allows precise control without weakening your overall keyword strategy.
Character limitations
-
Special instructions: maximum of 1,000 characters.
-
Custom prompts: maximum of 1,000 characters per prompt field.
-
Custom prompt sections: up to 10 per template.
