How do I change the default settings for text generation?
WriteText.ai's default settings for text generation are in the Settings section of your store's backend. To access them, open your backend and click the WriteText.ai section in the admin sidebar, then select Settings in the left-hand navigation. Once you make your changes, save them and they will take effect immediately.
What these settings control
The settings you configure here act as the global defaults for your store. They apply to all users and all content generation unless you override them at the product or category level (called collections in Shopify).
Specifically, you can configure:
- Tone, style, and target audience — These are user-level settings, meaning each user can adjust them individually. When a new user accesses WriteText.ai for the first time, these are set to whatever the administrator has configured as the global defaults.
- Product description target length and short description target length — These are global settings controlled by the administrator. Any changes made here apply immediately to all users, regardless of what individual users have set.
- Product data fields — Select which product attributes WriteText.ai uses when generating content.
- Keyword optimization — Set the number of target keywords per page, choose whether pages are automatically regenerated or flagged for review, define triggers based on ranking or time, and specify which text types to optimize. These settings apply globally unless customized for specific pages.
- Automation settings — Configure when and how content is automatically updated.
How overrides work
In WriteText.ai, defaults are used as the starting values for bulk generation and for users who have not yet saved personal preferences. If a user changes tone, style, or audience, those values are saved per user and reused in both single-product and bulk workflows, so later global changes do not overwrite them.
Product description target lengths are the exception, they come from the global settings and therefore affect all users on their next load/request after an admin update. Users can reset their personal preferences to the current global defaults at any time.
