Does WriteText.ai support internal linking for ecommerce SEO?
WriteText.ai can generate content that includes internal links to other pages on your store, found and verified by the AI at the time of writing. This means related products, category pages, guides, and other store resources can be linked automatically within your generated content, without you having to add or edit them manually.
How it works: Custom Prompt sections and Advanced research
Internal link generation requires two things: a Custom Prompt section in your template, and the research level set to Advanced.
Standard template sections such as introductions, features, or benefits are not designed for instructing the AI to find and verify URLs. If you want internal links in what would normally be a standard section, replace or supplement it with a custom prompt section instead. Within that section, you write an instruction telling the AI what the section should contain, what kind of internal pages to find and link to, how to format the anchor tags, and what to do if no suitable pages are found.
Advanced research is what enables the AI to actually browse your live store and verify that the pages it links to exist. Without it, the AI has no way to confirm whether a URL is real — which means links can be hallucinated. With Advanced research selected, WriteText.ai finds and checks URLs in real time before including them in the output.
Because the AI is actively browsing during generation, content with Advanced research takes longer to generate than Basic or no research. This is expected behaviour and a sign that verification is happening. Advanced research also uses more credits per generation — use the template preview to check the estimated cost before running bulk generation across your catalog
Your store must be live and publicly accessible
For the AI to find and verify your internal URLs, your store must be live and publicly accessible at the time of generation. WriteText.ai cannot browse pages that are behind a password, on a staging environment, or otherwise restricted from public access.
If your store is in development or protected, internal link generation will not work correctly — the AI will be unable to confirm that those pages exist and may either omit links or produce unreliable output. Make sure your store is fully live before using this feature.
What to include in your custom prompt
A reliable custom prompt for internal linking should specify which types of pages to link to, what makes a page a good match for the product being described, how the anchor tags should be formatted, and a fallback instruction if no suitable pages are found — for example, "if no relevant internal pages are found, output nothing."
The fallback matters. Without it, the AI may attempt to construct plausible-looking URLs rather than leave a section empty.
Sample custom prompt for internal linking
Internal links work best when they're embedded in content that already serves a purpose for the reader. A custom prompt section should lead with useful, relevant content — and link naturally within it rather than existing solely to house links.
For example, a product page for a cast iron skillet might include a section pointing shoppers to related care guides or compatible cookware in your store:
| Write a short, helpful paragraph suggesting how to get the most out of this product — such as care tips, ideal uses, or what to pair it with. Where relevant, link to pages on [your store URL] that you can verify as accessible and real at the time of writing, such as related products, compatible accessories, or guides. Format each link as an HTML anchor tag that opens in a new tab with rel="noopener". If no relevant internal pages are found, write the paragraph without links. |

The prompt works because the section has a clear purpose — giving the reader something useful — and the links support that purpose rather than being the point of it. The same approach applies to use cases, how-to suggestions, or any other section where pointing to another page on your store adds genuine value.
Typical use cases for internal linking in product content
Related or complementary products — linking to products that are commonly used together or frequently bought alongside the current product
Category pages — linking back to the parent category or a relevant subcategory to reinforce site structure
Store guides and resources — linking to buying guides, size charts, care instructions, or FAQs hosted on your own site
Compatible accessories or replacement parts — linking directly to the relevant product pages within your catalog
Brand or collection pages — linking to a brand landing page or curated collection that the product belongs to
Quick setup checklist
- Confirm your store is live and publicly accessible — staging and password-protected sites are not supported
- Add a custom prompt section to your template where you want internal links to appear
- Write a prompt specifying which page types to link to, HTML formatting, and a no-output fallback if no verified pages are found
- Set research level to Advanced in your template settings
- Check the estimated credit cost in template preview before running bulk generation
- If you need internal links in a standard template section, use a custom prompt section in its place
