How do PAA blocks and FAQ sections work together

Tags: People Also Ask, PAA, FAQ, AEO, Templates

WriteText.ai can generate both People Also Ask (PAA) blocks and FAQ sections for your product pages. This article explains how each one works in AEO, how they work together, and how to generate them in WriteText.ai.

How PAA blocks and FAQ sections work in AEO

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is about structuring content so that search engines and AI systems can extract and present it as a direct answer. PAA blocks and FAQ sections both contribute to this, but in different ways.

PAA blocks

PAA stands for People Also Ask. These are the expandable question boxes that appear within Google search results, sourced from real user searches. When your page answers a PAA question clearly, Google may select it as the source for that answer in search results. Each PAA answer is a featured snippet drawn from the page Google determines to be the most relevant response.

FAQ sections

A FAQ section is a set of questions and answers that you publish on a page. The questions reflect what your customers are likely to ask about a product. FAQ schema can be applied to help Google identify and classify that content. In WriteText.ai, FAQ content is generated from your product data and returned as a structured block of questions and answers ready to add to your page.

How they work together in AEO

FAQ sections and PAA blocks serve distinct purposes. FAQ schema helps Google understand question-and-answer content you have already written. PAA blocks bring verified, search-driven questions onto your pages and give your content the opportunity to be extracted as a direct answer in search results.

For ecommerce product pages, using both extends your coverage. The FAQ section addresses the questions you know your customers have, while PAA blocks connect your content to the questions users are actively searching for. WriteText.ai supports both, and lets you draw on PAA data directly when generating FAQ content.

Generating PAA blocks and FAQ sections in WriteText.ai

PAA blocks

When you ask WriteText.ai to generate PAA questions, it pulls from real search data for that product based on its keyword data. If fewer relevant questions exist in the data than the number you requested, WriteText.ai returns only the questions available. Requesting 10 PAA questions when only 5 exist in the data will produce 5.Image (56)

FAQ sections

By default, WriteText.ai generates FAQ content from your product information, but you can also configure it to draw on PAA data as a source for the questions it produces. This is controlled by the "Source questions from 'People Also Ask' data" setting in your FAQ template.

  • When the setting is enabled, WriteText.ai sources as many questions as the available search data supports, then fills the remainder from your product information. If you request 10 questions and 5 are available in the search data, you will receive 5 PAA-sourced questions and 5 based on your product information. If no PAA data is available at all, WriteText.ai will go back to generating all questions using product information instead.

  • When the setting is not enabled, all questions are based on your product information.
