What happens when I change my store domain?

Tags: domain change, change store domain

When you change your ecommerce store’s domain (for example, from shopmybrand.com to mybrandofficial.com), WriteText.ai handles your data differently depending on your platform. This article outlines what is retained, what is lost, and what requires manual migration.

Magento and Shopify

For Magento and Shopify, domain changes do not affect your WriteText.ai data. All data is retained, including:

  • Keyword optimization data
  • Generated texts
  • History logs

WooCommerce

WooCommerce identifies each store based on its domain, so some WriteText.ai data does not automatically transfer during a domain change.

You will lose (if not migrated):

  • Keyword optimization pipeline
  • All generated texts that have not been transferred to your store, including:
    • Product descriptions
    • Meta titles and descriptions
    • Short descriptions
    • Open Graph texts
    • Image alt text

You will permanently lose (even with migration):

  • History logs stored inside the WriteText.ai plugin in WooCommerce
    • (Audit trail and reporting in the WriteText.ai backend remain available.)

You will not lose:

  • Any content already published to WooCommerce
    • Published content is stored in your WooCommerce database and is unaffected by domain changes.

What to do if I am changing domains on WooCommerce

If you want to retain your keyword pipeline and all generated (but unpublished) content, you should contact WriteText.ai before changing your domain. The team can manually migrate:

  • Keyword optimization pipeline
  • Generated texts stored in WriteText.ai

Published content does not require migration.
